Happy First Day of School Tigers!

What a great first day! It was so wonderful to see our students back in the buildings, see how much they’ve grown, and, most importantly, see all those smiles. We are off to a great start, and we have a feeling this is going to be a really great year!

We wanted to share a few important reminders about arrival and dismissal. Thank you in advance for helping us keep things safe, organized, and running smoothly!

Morning Drop-Off

  • Please do not arrive on campus (or be in the loop) before 7:50 a.m. Students need to remain in their cars or at the ramp until 8:00 a.m.

  • We do not have supervision before 8:00 a.m., so students should not enter the buildings or head to the playground/sports areas before 8:00 unless they are here for a scheduled early-morning activity such as Jazz Band or Show Choir.

  • Drop-off is from 8:00–8:10 a.m.

  • If you are dropping off your child, please use the middle lanes rather than the Conners bus lane. We do have a small number of families with special arrangements who use the bus lane, but all other families should use the middle lanes.

  • Ms. Galeaz and Miss Jess will be outside to help students get where they need to go. If you need assistance, simply put on your hazards and they will come to you.

  • Students arriving after 8:15 a.m. will be marked late.

  • If you are a walker, please stay at the ramp until 8:00.

Getting to school on time really does make a difference! That extra time allows students to settle in, connect with friends, enjoy some outdoor/social time, and get ready for the day without missing important information or instruction.

Breakfast is free for all students. If your child would like breakfast, they should head to the cafeteria as soon as they arrive.

If you arrive after 8:15, please park and walk your child into the Conners office to get a late slip. Please do not use the bus lane or simply drop your child off.

Afternoon Pick-Up

Here is the afternoon schedule:

  • Kindergarten only: 2:45-2:55 p.m. — bus lane in front of the Conners building

  • Grades 1–4: 2:50 p.m.

  • Grades 5–8: 2:55 p.m.

  • Parents waiting for students to be dismissed should wait at the ramp and your child will come to you (including Kindergarten).

  • All students must be picked up by 3:05 p.m.

For Grades 1–8, please use the middle lanes, zipper merge, and pull as far forward along the curb as possible. Ms. Ryan and Ms. Savage will be outside to help students get safely into cars.

If you are picking up a K student and arrive after 2:55 p.m., please use the middle lanes so the buses can load safely in the bus lane.

We know dismissal can feel a little like a carefully choreographed traffic puzzle, especially during the first few days! Please be patient, follow the directions of staff outside, and we will get everyone where they need to go.

A Few Other Important Reminders

Cell phones & smartwatches:

If your child in Grades K–4 brings a cellphone or smartwatch to school, please email Miss Taylor. The device will need to be left in the main office during the school day and picked up at dismissal.  If your child in Grades 5-8 brings a cellphone or smartwatch to school, they will turn their devices into their homeroom teacher from 8:10-2:55 or the main office if needed.

Absences:

If your child will be absent, please call

207-288-3631

or email Miss Taylor at

taylor.hamor@mdirss.org

as early as possible. If we haven't heard from you, our automated system will make a call mid-morning to check on the absence. If a reason is not given for the absence, students will be marked unexcused.  Chronically absent is defined as 10 or more absences or more than 10% of attended school days and with mandated state reporting.

Change of afternoon plans:

If your child has a change in their after school plans, please email or call Taylor before 2:30pm.

Our end of the day is a busy place and we want to ensure that your child receives their change of plans.

Dress for the day:

Please send your child to school in layers and, preferably, sneakers. Students will be walking between buildings, spending time outside, and enjoying recess. We want them to be comfortable and ready to participate in everything the day has to offer!

Things to bring:

Please send your child to school with a water bottle and a snack every day.

Stay connected:

Weekly newsletters will be sent home on Fridays. We also encourage families to check the school website regularly for updates, weekly highlights, after-school activities, community events, menus, and other important information. Teachers also send home weekly or bi-weekly newsletters to keep you in the know.

New School Building:

We are still on track to move into the new school at the end of October.  The Bar Harbor school calendar is different from the rest of the AOS so please be aware of the two-week break from Oct 26-Nov 6.  Information on childcare opportunities from community partners will be coming in the next week.

We are so excited to get this school year rolling! Thank you for trusting us with your children and for being such an important part of our school community. We are looking forward to an amazing year together!
